Some wedding days are filled with hundreds of guests, packed timelines, and nonstop celebrations.

Others are intentionally slow.

This intimate Pride Month elopement at Garden of the Gods in Shawnee National Forest was exactly that; a day centered entirely around the two people getting married.

A Wedding Day That Felt Like Them

The day began with a 6 hour drive down to southern Illinois, singing along to their favorite songs before arriving at their cozy campsite tucked away in the woods. Instead of spending the afternoon apart, they chose to get ready together, taking their time and soaking in every moment before becoming wives.

There was no rush.

No pressure.

Just quiet conversations, excitement, and the kind of comfort that only comes from being with your best friend.

One of my favorite parts of the day was watching them simply exist together. They laughed, cuddled, hiked, helped each other get dressed, and embraced every little in between moment that often gets lost during a traditional wedding day.

Cutting Cake at Their Campsite

Before heading to their ceremony location, they celebrated with a simple "Just Married" cake at their campsite.

No reception.

No elaborate decorations.

Just the two of them sharing dessert and taking in the reality that this was finally their wedding day.

It's a reminder that your wedding doesn't have to follow anyone else's expectations. The moments you'll remember most are often the simplest ones.

Cliffside Vows at Garden of the Gods

As the evening light settled over Shawnee National Forest, we made our way to one of Illinois' most breathtaking overlooks.

There couldn't have been a more fitting place for their love story than the Garden of the Gods. These breathtaking rock formations have been shaped over hundreds of millions of years, formed by ancient seas, lifted by powerful forces, and sculpted by time itself.

It felt like the perfect place to begin a marriage.

Standing together on the cliffs overlooking the forest, they exchanged private vows with nothing but the sounds of nature surrounding them. It was quiet, emotional, and beautifully uncomplicated.

After spending the day with these two, it was impossible not to see how naturally they fit together. Every part of the day from singing along in the car and getting ready side by side to sharing cake at their campsite and exchanging vows overlooking the cliffs. felt intentional, relaxed, and completely true to who they are.

Why I Love Photographing Intimate Weddings

Elopements like this are a reminder that there isn't one "right" way to get married.

Whether you're planning a courthouse ceremony, an adventurous hike, a destination wedding, or exchanging vows on a cliff overlooking Shawnee National Forest, your wedding should reflect your relationship.

As a photographer, my goal isn't just to capture what your day looked like, it's to document what it felt like.

The calm.

The excitement.

The nervous smiles.

The happy tears.

The tiny moments you'll want to relive years from now.

Kind Words from the Couple

One of the greatest compliments I can receive is knowing my couples felt completely comfortable being themselves. As an LGBTQ+ wedding photographer, creating a safe, welcoming, and affirming experience is just as important to me as delivering beautiful photographs.

Here's what they had to say after receiving their gallery:

"These pictures are so perfect, and I still can't believe I married my best friend. In January, I posted in the Shawnee National Forest group looking for an LGBTQIA+ friendly photographer. We compiled a list to choose from, but Forevermore was the first (and only) photographer we ended up looking at.

Her vibe was perfect for what we wanted, and the queer representation in her portfolio felt natural. We immediately felt comfortable and knew she'd be the perfect person.

After speaking with Andrea and explaining what I was looking for, she came back and offered so much more, and she truly delivered. Andrea and Nev made our day so perfect from start to finish.
Anyone who knows me and Kait knows we're shy and extremely introverted, but they made us feel comfortable not only in front of the camera, but talking and laughing with them as well. These pictures truly speak for themselves, and they even stopped to pick us wildflowers from the side of the road because we didn't have any (we didn't!).

Forevermore Photography is forever my photographer. She's stuck with us now! If you're in Illinois, I highly recommend her, and even if you aren't, she's worth the travel fee 110%."

Reading reviews like this means more than I can put into words.

Photography is about so much more than creating beautiful images. It's about making people feel seen, celebrated, and comfortable enough to be themselves. Knowing these two trusted me with one of the biggest days of their lives, and left feeling this way, is something I'll never take for granted.
