Every time I step behind the lens, I get the honor of stepping into someone else’s world, even just for a little while. These sessions aren’t just about photos; they’re about connection, emotion, and the beautifully raw, real moments. There’s a quiet magic in witnessing love in all its forms; the loud, the soft, the steady, the wild. One of the greatest joys of being a photographer is capturing those in-between moments that linger long after the session ends. The kind of moments that remind me why I do what I do.
So today, I’m starting something close to my heart: a new blog series where I spotlight some of the incredible humans I’ve had the privilege of photographing.
Featured Session: The Cushman Family
This session was all heart. The Cushmans are a blended family, and this was more than just an engagement session; it was a celebration of unity, growth, and the deep bond they’ve built together. With their two girls in tow, the session felt like a perfect reflection of who they are: joyful, connected, and fully in love with their life together.
We explored a quiet, open field under soft, overcast skies, the kind of light that wraps everything in a gentle, moody glow. As the session came to a close, the clouds finally gave way to a light rain, adding a little unexpected magic to the moment.
The girls laughed and played, twirling in their dresses and climbing into their parents’ arms. There was dancing, snuggling, piggyback rides, and a whole lot of genuine joy; the kind you can’t stage, only feel. The kind of unposed, joy-filled movement that makes my photographer heart do a happy dance. With little girls full of energy, personality, and the kind of sweetness that makes your heart melt, and Mom’s calm, radiant presence grounding it all, the session felt like home. Dad brought the steady, loving energy that tied everything together, always ready with a laugh, a playful moment, or a gentle hand on someone’s back. It was real. It was heartfelt. It was them.
Why This Session Stuck With Me
What made this session so memorable was how natural and effortless their connection was. The Cushmans let their girls just be, and in turn, we got to capture their real, beautiful dynamic; the kind that can’t be staged. It was a mix of chaos and calm in the best way, and it reminded me why I love storytelling through photos. It’s not about perfection. It’s about presence.
What stood out most to me was how present they all were with one another. It wasn’t just about getting pretty engagement photos, it was about celebrating their journey as a family. Their love wasn’t just between two people; it radiated through the way they all interacted. It was full of warmth, softness, and strength.
There’s something really powerful about photographing a love that’s already weathered life’s storms and chosen to build something beautiful together. That’s what this session was. Not just a beginning, but a recognition of all they’ve already created.
A Note to Future Clients
Your story doesn’t have to be perfect or polished, it just has to be yours. You don’t have to have it all figured out. What matters is that you show up as you. I’ll guide you, prompt you, and help you feel completely comfortable being in the moment, because that’s where the magic lives.
Every family has a story. Let’s tell yours.
